Genderama: A TEI collection of nineteenth-century Spanish drama by women in TAPAS

In the Fall semester of 2024, I started work with students on creating digital editions of nineteenth-century plays by Spanish women, coded in XML, part of the Text Encoding Initiative, and published on the TAPAS platform. We began with three plays by Adelaida Muñiz y Mas. The work continues this spring offline, as we await an update to the TAPAS platform in early 2025.

This work was inspired by Professor David Gies, to began collecting and photocopying these plays from libraries across the world (Biblioteca Nacional, University of Pennsylvania, Dartmouth, Oberlin, among others) long before digital copies were available, and passed them on to us. From these two boxes of plays, the students compiled a database of some 94 individual plays by 63 authors, which guides our digital collection.
